The Canadian Pacific Railway (CP) has issued 72-hour notice to the Teamsters Canada Rail Conference (TCRC) of its plan to lock-out employees on Sunday, March 20th if the union leadership and company are unable to come to a negotiated settlement. The TCRC represents approximately 3,000 locomotive engineers, conductors, train and yard workers across Canada.
On Tuesday, CP proposed an offer that addressed a total of 26 outstanding issues between the parties, including the TCRC’s key issues, wages, benefits and pensions. The company said the union rejected the offer and continues to table additional demands. CP will continue discussion with the TCRC leadership to achieve a negotiated settlement or agreement to enter arbitration. At the same time, CP has commenced its work stoppage contingency plan.
Further details will be provided, including embargos as the company's shut down plan progresses. Additionally, CP has launched a fact-based information hub with materials about negotiating history and the issues and consequences of a work stoppage cpr.ca/TCRC2022.
