Rail Alert STGI

November 23, 2022

As the ongoing rail labor situation continues its slow progress toward a resolution, we understand that you, like us, are eager for this bargaining round to conclude. We are committed to keeping you informed and providing you with updates that provide a balanced view of what’s happening and what to expect.

As of November 21, 2022, nine out of 13 unions have ratified agreements. The four unions that have not fully resolved the bargaining round – SMART-TD (with respect to only one of its contracts), BMWED, BRS, and IBB – are subject to an agreed-upon cooling off period until 12:01 a.m. on December 9, 2022.

A work stoppage is not imminent and all parties continue to work diligently toward a resolution. However, there remains a possibility that the federal government may need to intervene. Given the disruptive impact that a rail strike would have on the nation’s economy, rail carriers and industry representatives are actively communicating with Congress and the White House to be in position to move quickly to prevent a work stoppage.
We are working closely with our customers to ensure your cargo arrives as planned. STG has multiple solutions to address your supply chain needs.

If you are looking to change your mode of operation in the interim, STG offers different options for you:

  • STG Transload: pick up in an intermodal container and transload into an over-the-road van at an STG warehouse

  • Temporary switch from intermodal to STG full truckload

  • Temporary storage in an STG-secured container yard in all major markets.

Please reach out to your Account Manager or Customer Service Representative to discuss the options that STG has available immediately.

We are actively monitoring the situation, and we will continue to provide timely updates.

We hope this update is helpful, and we want to assure you that we will continue to do everything possible to ensure your transportation needs are met.
